Below you will find a list and description of the courses I took during my master's program at MSU.
Summer 2011
CEP 810: Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Instructors: J. Spicer This course was intended to teach about theories of learning and understanding, create mindsets for teaching with technology, create professional learning networks, learn about TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge), and find creative uses with technology. This course taught me about many new forms of technology that can be used in a variety of ways in the classroom. I also learned about how TPACK can support technology integration into teaching. Finally, I was introduced to Prezi and used this resource to create a group presentation about using videos in the classroom. |
CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technology to Education
Instructors: J. Spicer, M. White This course was an expansion of CEP 810. It dug deeper into TPACK and how to apply it to teaching. This class focused on designing a blog and using it as a communication tool for education. We looked at lesson design tools and evaluating lesson plans to ensure students are getting the most from the experience. The major project of this course was the development of a Stand Alone Instructional Resource (StAIR) project. |
Summer 2012
CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Practice
Instructors: J. Spicer, S. Wright The purpose of this class was to discover and learn how technology can address the issues of teaching related problems. I had to focus on a wicked problem that I saw in my classroom and choose a technology to help solve this problem. I chose to help students with conflict resolution by recording the students role playing effective resolution strategies and saving the recordings to play as a demonstration for future classes. I also worked with others in the class to create a group leadership project to teach others how to use Windows Movie Maker in the classroom. |
Summer 2013
CEP 820: Teaching Students Online
Instructors: A. Heintz, S. Sawaya, L. Wolf This course was designed to help understand how to teach in an online setting. During this course I looked at many different Content Management Systems (CMS) to choose a platform to make online learning successful for my students. I ended up choosing Haiku LMS as my CMS because it was one of the most user friendly options and it had a lot of the functions I was looking to use in a site made for 3rd graders. In the end, I produced a successful online course to teach a science unit on animal adaptations to third grade students. |
Summer 2014
CEP 816: Teaching & Learning Across Curriculum
Instructors: R. Spiro During this course, we read the book "Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms." This book did a great job of teaching different ways that these resources can be used in the classroom. The course focused on teaching about learning through the use of technology in many different curricular fields. We also explored ways that teachers can use these tools across the curriculum. |
TE 846: Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Instructors: K. Cook This course focused on assessment and instruction methods to help literacy learners of all different types. The course helped expand my understanding that all learners are different and gave strategies for using unique practices to teach reading and support all students. Many strategies were taught in order to help teachers manage this wide variety of literacy learners. The main assignment during this course was a case study to learn about effective reading and writing instruction. |
Summer 2015
CEP 800: Learning in School & Other Settings
Instructors: D. Campbell, C. Roseth The focus of this course was to look at the different ways in which students interpret information and develop understanding of concepts. The class began with interviewing a student and creating an audio podcast to demonstrate student misconceptions. Another project was to design a lesson that incorporated technology in a meaningful way. I created a lesson plan for a unit that includes students writing personal narratives and publishing them by creating a digital story using an app. |
CEP 815: Technology and Leadership
Instructors: B. Gleason, S. Keenan The main focus of this course was to see how leadership exists in education and with technology. We discussed the different types of leadership and how we ourselves can become leaders. During this course I created a personal manifesto to demonstrate and share with others the resources that I currently use and those that I would like to use in the future. I also chose a problem of practice within my school to find a solution for. |
CEP 822: Approaches to Ed Research
Instructors: D. Freer, H. Nguyen, E. Wong The main focus and goal of this course was around effective research practices. In this course I learned about the relationship of research to educational practice and about research methods used by researchers who produce more formal research. The intent of this course was to learn how to write an educational research paper. My research project focused on finding out which teaching method, push-in or pull-out, is more beneficial for students. |
Summer 2016
CEP 807: Capstone in Educational Technology
Instructors: B. Dillman, S. Greenhalgh, S. Keenan, M. Koehler This was the final class in the MAET (Master of Arts in Educational Technology) program. The objective of the course was to create a portfolio to showcase and develop work to show what you have learned in the master's program. The portfolio was intended for an audience of your choosing depending on how you would like to use the portfolio after you complete the program. The course also gave you an opportunity to reflect back on your goals and to discuss future goals. |
